Neighborhood Watch

Oakbrook 4th Addition is in the process of purchasing 20 new Neighborhood Watch signs for our community. The signs will be posted at all entrances to the 4th Addition and other strategic areas.

Criminals don't like to be watched, and when they get the feeling that they are being watched, they go elsewhere. This fact is what gives Neighborhood Watch its power.

While eliminating crime completely is the ideal solution, the next best thing is to move it out of your neighborhood!

With limited resources, police departments can only do so much to keep our neighborhoods crime-free. By organizing into Neighborhood Watch groups, citizens can provide hundreds of additional "eyes and ears" to help the police deter criminal activity on their streets, and leave criminals with the distinct impression that they are not welcome in our area!

Oakbrook 4th Addition still needs Neighborhood Watch Volunteers!

Becoming a volunteer does NOT mean engaging any suspicious people or activity.

It requires staying alert to what is happening on your block. If you see suspicious activity, REPORT IT. We only serve as an extra pair of eyes for law enforcement.

What is Suspicious Activity?

  • Someone tampering with electrical, gas or property utilities without an identifiable company vehicle or uniform

  • Someone loitering around homes or secluded areas.

  • Open or broken doors and windows at an unoccupied residence.

  • A vehicle cruising the streets repeatedly.

  • Multiple persons who appear to be working in unison and exhibiting suspicious behaviors.

  • Signs of forced entry or tampering with security or safety systems.

  • Persons arriving or leaving from homes at unusual hours.

  • Know your neighbors to communicate when you may be out of town.

How to report Suspicious Activity?

  • Our police department has an emergency line and a non-emergency line

  • Emergency situations would be a possible home burglary

  • Non-emergency situations would be loitering

Oakbrook 4th Addition will have a program kick off meeting.

Get involved and join us. We will have a kick off meeting this Spring 2022 to provide more details on keeping our neighborhood safe.
